1. INTRODUCTION

This document for the Avrella Music Score Editor is a brief guide covering the main functionality of the program.

Thanks to those who have helped test out and review the program to date, along the way providing many useful comments and suggestions. The resultant is what you see. Given that - if after having tried out the program, and you have any suggestions/comments, please feel free to email your comments.

1.1 System Requirements

IBM PC or compatible. Mouse pointing device. Preferable: Sound Blaster or compatible sound card.

Operating Systems: Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2000.

1.2 Overview

The program has been designed with the intention of enabling easy creation of scores along with editing and navigation.

2. DOCUMENT (SCORE) CREATION

This section covers the initial creation and set up of a score.

2.1 Clean sheet

Starting from scratch. Select File -> New to create a new document in Avrella. You will then be prompted for the Composition Details in the Details dialog box. Having entered the details and clicking OK, you will be prompted to define the basic staff layout in the Music Sheet Framework Dialog. After which you have a blank score framework and are ready to start. Notation and symbol entry via computer keyboard / mouse. Palettes for access to commonly used symbols.

2.2 Midi import

Select File -> Open (Files of Type: Midi File filter) to import a Midi file to create a score based on the Midi import data.

Includes standard print options Print, Print Preview, Print Setup - operation similar to that on any standard Windows application.

10. 1 Integrated application help system.

10.1.1 Contents and Index command

Use this command to display the Contents, Index and Find dialogs for Help. From the opening screen, you can jump to step-by-step instructions for using Avrella and various types of reference information. Once you open Help Contents, you can click the Contents button whenever you want to return to the opening screen. Index allows searching of words indexed in Avrella help.

10.1.2 Context Help command

Use the Context Help command to obtain help on some portions of Avrella. When you choose the Toolbar's Context Help button, the mouse pointer will change to an arrow and question mark. Then click somewhere in the Avrella window, such as another Toolbar button or a menu selection. The Help topic will be shown for the item you clicked.

10.1.3 Using F1 for Help

Whilst in the application the status bar often displays the message 'For Help Press F1'. Pressing F1 whilst in a dialog box for example brings up the relevant help screen for that dialog box.
